5 Signs of A Traumatic Brain Injury

Summer is here! The kids are out of school and everyone is outside walking, playing, and being active. We love to see everyone enjoying the warmer weather but with increased activity comes the increase of potential accidents. Like it or not, some things can’t be avoided but the good news is, you can be prepared!

We all know that a head injury can have negative effects on the brain but do you know the signs of a Traumatic Brain Injury? It’s always good to see a medical professional when someone has sustained a head wound but if you haven’t witnessed a head injury and aren’t sure what to do, here are 5 Signs of a Traumatic Brain Injury to look out for.

  • Persistent Headaches
  • This may seem obvious but we have a tendency to write headaches off because we all get them from time to time. If your loved one complains of persistent and painful headaches, it is wise to seek out medical advice.
  • Nausea & Vomiting
  • If your loved one feels sick or becomes ill after a blow to the head or a fall, this could be a sign of TBI.
  • Fatigue
  • Immediate and dramatic fatigue after a head injury is a common sign of TBI.
  • Vision Issues
  • Trouble seeing clearly and sensitivity to light are two common issues associated with TBI.
  • Confusion & Memory Loss
  • If your loved one seems overly confused after a head injury or has trouble remembering basic facts, it’s a good idea to seek medical attention.

There’s no way to know for sure how mild or severe a head injury is without seeking out medical advice, but understanding the symptoms of TBI will prepare you for the event should you have to make a decision of how quickly to act. Preparation can help you remain calm in the event that a head injury occurs, and remember, if your loved one loses consciousness, it is always recommended to take them to see a doctor immediately.

Stay calm, stay vigilant, and enjoy your summer!
