Why We Do Events

This year the Jimmy Simpson Foundation has been blessed with the opportunity to do many events! When we reflect on these beautiful opportunities and plan for upcoming events, we are reminded of why we started to do things like this in the first place. While these reasons live with us everyday, we wanted to take a moment to share our “Why” with you.

The Jimmy Simpson Values
It’s no secret our values hinge on the idea that every person, regardless of physical or mental capabilities, deserves a good life. This is at the root of what we do and at the core of why Safehaven exists. But what is a good life? Is it just attending to basic needs? Waking up everyday, being cared for and then going to sleep to do it all over again? We like to think there is
something more.

Living a Good Life
Living a good life can look different to different people, but at the Jimmy Simpson Foundation, we like to think it incorporates being surrounded by loved ones, enjoying extracurricular activities, and still getting to have fun and engaging experiences! Our beloved Jimmy Simpson, the inspiration for our work, lived a full and beautiful life. He enjoyed experiencing new things
and really living to the fullest. In his honor, we encourage our residents to do the same and that includes our Foundation-hosted events.

Why Events Matter

It would be easy to say that just because we provide good daily care for our residents that we’ve done enough. But we know that just like the rest of us, our residents look forward to and gain profound joy from experiencing new things. Through events like Creature Features and visits to the Chattanooga Zoo and Tennessee Aquarium, we show our residents, and everyone else, that
life does not have to be limited. Our residents deserve to experience the world and the wonder that it brings and it’s an honor to facilitate that. We have had such a lovely time bringing the world to our residents and our residents to the
world. Through your support and the support of their families, enriching experiences are made possible. We get to see the effects of this on a daily basis and it’s a pleasure to share those positive effects with you.

Because Showing Up Changes Everything At The Jimmy Simpson Foundation, we often say that healing begins with connection. But connection doesn’t just happen—it’s built by people who choose to show up. They show up with open hearts, listening ears, and helping hands. The holidays are one of those magical times when everything is merry and bright but sometimes everything that’s merry and bright reminds us of everything that’s different. In between the parties and the lights and the gift giving, sometimes the memory of what was compared to the reality of what is, is a lot to The post How To Navigate The Holidays As a First-Time TBI Caregiver appeared first on Jimmy Simpson Foundation.

The crisp fall air is back and if you’re from the South, you know this means football season! Summer is here! The kids are out of school and everyone is outside walking, playing, and being active. We love to see everyone enjoying the warmer weather but with increased activity comes the increase of potential accidents. As we wrap up a beautiful month of warm weather and exciting events, we wanted to take a moment and share a testimony from one of the people that makes SafeHaven so special.
